Totem & Pylon
Pylons and totems, which are the leading elements of exterior architectural orientation are used tor the promotion of all kinds of institutions and organizations, especially companies, hospitals, and shopping centers. Since these elements, which are used tor both information and orientation purposes, are designed tor exterior orientation, it is important that they are resistant to weather conditions. As they are aimed to have high strength and long life, special attention should be paid to the material to be used. Emphasizing and eye-catching designs should be preferred, bearing in mind that these wayfinding element, which raise the sense of awareness in users, will reflect the image and stance of the institution. Although pylons and totems are generally similar to each other, they are in two different types that differ from each other in terms of use and size. Totem signs are usually located on the side of the roads outside the residential areas, so they are also called "road signs". Since these signage elements have a large and ostentatious appearance, they are also frequently preferred in metro stations, gas stations and shopping malls. These signs, which are installed on single or double posts, advertise the product or service of a single company. Pylon signs, on the other hand, are wayfinding elements positioned at the entrances of hotels, residences, hospitals, and companies, making the institution they are promoting easily noticed by users. Although they are intended to attract attention to the users, care is taken to design the pylon signs, which are also used as double-sided devices, in moderate dimensions so that they do not occupy too much space. At the same time, pylon signs, on which the names of products and services belonging to more than one company can be placed, are used more as monolithic surfaces and they are aimed to integrate with the platform.
